It takes less than a minute to make your vehicle safer

If there were an easy way to increase safety and save money every time you got in the car, would you do it? There is, and it takes under a minute. All you have to do is check your tires. Yet, most people fail to do this regularly.

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) investigated tire inflation on commercial vehicles. They found that 55% of tires were more than six psi from the ideal pressure. Truckers check their tires more than the average driver. It is, therefore, probable that the majority of cars are not driven with the correct tire pressures.

Why is having the correct tires pressure so crucial?

Tires are the most important component of your vehicle. They are your contact with the road surface. Here are some reasons why proper tire-inflation is crucial:

  • Economy: Underinflated tires increase rolling resistance. This means every mile you drive cost you more in gas.
  • Tire wear: Tires wear faster or need replacing sooner when not at the correct pressure. The cost mounts up over a lifetime of driving.
  • Safety: If your tires are overinflated, they lose their grip on the road. It reduces your ability to stop in an emergency. It reduces traction on corners and slippery surfaces. If your tires are underinflated, it will lead to sloppy steering. It reduces the vehicle’s responsiveness. That could be the difference between steering around a hazard and hitting it.

When car crashes happen, they are usually blamed on things like distraction, alcohol or poor driving. Yet, it is likely that improperly inflated tires may have been a contributing factor. Incorrect tire pressure may be the reason that the driver could not take avoiding action in time.

If an accident has happened to you, it may be wise to speak with an attorney about your options for compensation.
