Multi-vehicle accidents can be difficult to sort out. In the space of a few seconds, several vehicles can collide for very different reasons, and determining liability may require a significant post-accident investigation. A recent multi-vehicle accident on Highway in Monroe demonstrates the difficulty of establishing causation and liability.

In this accident, a Range Rover was traveling east on Highway 74 when it crossed the median, hit a semi-tractor trailer truck and a Honda C-RV and flipped over. Two vans also collided with each other while trying to avoid the initial accident. The driver of the Honda was killed in the collision. A witness told police that driver of the Range Rover was pregnant. Based on this statement, the woman was taken to a local hospital for observation. No other injuries were reported.

Police said that they planned to review the medical records of the hospitalized woman in their search for a possible cause for the crash. The most likely target for police investigators is evidence that the woman was under the influence of either alcohol or drugs that impaired her ability to operate a motor vehicle. No criminal charges have been filed.

Anyone who has lost a loved one or suffered injuries in a multi-vehicle crash may be considering seeking damages from the party or parties whose negligence caused the accident. As this case demonstrates, the initial narrative of the accident does not point to any obvious reason why the Range Rover crossed the median or why the driver of the Honda died. In pursuing a claim arising out of such an accident, a person may wish to consult an experienced accident attorney for an evaluation of the evidence and an estimate of the likelihood of recovering damages.
