What is the best thing we can give our children as they are learning to drive?  Experience!  Teens are 12 times more likely to get in an accident in the 1st month of driving than after a year of experience and motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death among 15-20 year olds.  How do we help our children get this needed experience?  Teen Driver Training!

When my daughter began driving, I enrolled her in a teen driver training school put on by B.R.A.K.E.S, which stands for Be Responsible And Keep Everyone Safe.  B.R.A.K.E.S.. was formed by a local drag racer, Doug Herbert, after the loss of his two sons in a tragic motor vehicle accident.  He knew something good must come out of such a terrible loss so he formed B.R.A.K.E.S.  The school is designed for teenagers ages 15 – 19 with a learners permit or license.  They teach things like accident avoidance, panic stops, and car control, things that aren’t learned in regular Driver’s Ed.  It is one thing to tell a new driver to “turn into a skid” but that means nothing until they actually do it!  Best of all, B.R.A.K.E.S. course is free for all students.

Actual driver training can give our new driver’s the experience they need to avoid becoming involved in a motor vehicle accident.  Give B.R.A.K.E.S. a call at 704-720-3806 or at putonthebrakes.org.  Or find another teen driver training school for your children.  Let’s give them the tools they need to keep them safe on the road when they need it the most.
